French Government to improve French School children
speak foreign languages mainly with help of cartoons in English
The
French Government has decided to launch a programme which aims at improving the
ability of school children to speak foreign languages. The first phase will
begin at the Primary school levels across the country. This programme will
encourage school children to watch cartoons in English.
The
French Education Minister Mr. Jean-Michael Blanquer said, “We know perfectly
well that if our Scandinavian neighbours are so good at English it is because
they watch films in their original language.”
A
survey was carried out all over Europe and the report highlighted that out of
15 countries, France ranked 15th on how a main foreign language was
taught in French schools. It ranked a little higher for a second foreign
language.
