About One Voice Children’s Choir
The One Voice Children’s Choir is an American children’s choir and was founded in 2001 by Masa Fukuda. He composed the song "It Just Takes Love", co written by Jeannine Lasky, and performed it with the choir for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah, and the song won two Pearl awards. After the Olympics he formed the choir group as a non-profit organization. With performances ranging from songs of genres gospel, classical, pop, Hip-hop, Broadway, R&B and patriotic, the choir comprises students from age four to eighteen. With Fukuda and Shults serving as co-directors, the group changed their original name from ‘2002 Winter Olympic Children’s Choir’ to ‘Studio A Children’s Choir’ in 2003. Later in 2005, the choir was renamed to ‘One Voice Children’s Choir’.
The choir performed the song "Innocence of Youth" in 2003 in a music contest in Japan and won the John Lennon International Music Award presented by Lennon's wife, Yoko Ono. Their rendition of the song ‘Let it go’ from the Disney movie Frozen in 2014, starring Lexi Walker and Alex Boyé, have received over 100 million views in YouTube which helped them receive the 2014 YouTube Spotlight's "Best Pop Cover" award. Joseph C. of Time Magazine called it the song’s best cover ever. The group reached the quarterfinals in the 9th season of America’s Got Talent (AGT) in 2014.
The group was the host choir In 2008, In Harmony, an annual international children's music festival. One Voice has performed at the Salt Palace during RootsTech and also at Abravanel Hall during Bestor's annual show "A Kurt Bestor Christmas". Apart from this, various other artistes have also collaborated with One Voice, such as Janice Kapp Perry, Jenny Oaks Baker, Peter Breinholt, David Archuleta, Ryan Shupe, Sam Cardon, Jon Schmidt, Barry Manilow, Garth Smith, The Piano Guys, and Vocal Point.
About Masa Fukuda
The Founder and Director of the award winning American children’s choir, One Voice Children’s Choir, Masafumi "Masa" Fukuda (福田真史), is a Japanese-American songwriter, music arranger, and choir director. Fukuda, a child music prodigy who was “attracted to anything that made sound”, composed his first piano song, ‘Lonely Winter’, at age four. Born in Takatsuki, Osaka, Japan, he enrolled in the Yamaha Music School at age eight. In his 2nd year at high school, he participated in a student exchange program at the Meridian School, a private school in Provo, Utah and decided to attend Brigham Young University (BYU) after encouragement from BYU professors. In 2002, he and songwriter Jeannine Lasky wrote songs for The Power Within, an album that featured themes of "love, courage, hope, faith and living together in peace". It was at that time that he won a contest for composers to write music for sale as soundtracks during the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah. He asked 1,621 elementary school students to help him make the commemorative Olympic CD "Light Up the Land" and he volunteered to train them. He and Jeannine Lasky wrote the song "It Just Takes Love" and it received two Pearl awards. After the Olympics he started the One Voice Children’s Choir. In 2005, "His Endless Gift of Love", the song he co-wrote with Lasky received a Pearl Award in the "Holiday Recording" category. According to The Salt Lake Tribune's David Burger, Fukuda's aim is "to create a nurturing, tolerant environment with high standards and a commitment to singing uplifting songs"
