Congrats Netherlands Women,Ireland Women’s Hockey Team
Ireland
lost to defending champions Netherlands in the finals of the Women’s World Hockey
Tournament 2018 held at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre within the
Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London, England. Though they gave a strong and spirited
fight, the record eight time Hockey champions were just too good for the first
time finalists. The Dutch won comfortably and the score was 6-0. Spain defeated
Australia 3-1 to secure the 3rd place.
The
Ireland women's national field hockey team is organised by Hockey Ireland and
represents both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland in international
women's field hockey competitions, including the Women's Hockey World Cup, the
Women's EuroHockey Nations Championship and the Hockey Series. They have
previously competed in the Women's Hockey Champions Challenge and the Women's
FIH Hockey World League. (Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ireland_women%27s_national_field_hockey_team)

Baltinglass,
Arklow, Roundwood, Aughrim, Enniskerry, Shillelagh and other regions took part
in Community Games this year at Shillelagh. The band as usual was at its best
followed by the parade march by all participating regions. Roundwood won the
best parade prize. It was a good hot weather with just few short intermittent
showers from noon. But the sun was bright n shining the whole time and the over
600 athletes proved that their love, dedication and sportsman spirit was
nothing short of the expectations of the hundreds of spectators who had camped
all over the ground enjoying a happy sports outing.
The
opening event was the under 6 mixed relay with the Shillelagh team bagging the
1st place, Aughrim/Annacurra 2nd, Baltinglass 3rd
and Roundwood on 4th place. Overall there was good, healthy
competition and most importantly everyone had fun.
Thanks
to all the organisers, coaches and volunteers who helped in all aspects of the
event in every area. The community games training in Baltinglass was at the
grounds of Scoil Naomh Iosaf and the coaches did a grand job in coaching and
training all the children to perform their very best.
